The IFNEC Steering Group conducted a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Workshop which was hosted by the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission in Jordan, June 11-12, 2014, in the Dead Sea. The goal of this invitation-only workshop was to bring together, under the auspices of the 63 countries of IFNEC, the full spectrum of key stakeholders necessary to successfully deploy SMRs in order to gain an enhanced enterprise wide understanding of how SMRs could be effectively deployed in specific types of markets while identifying key challenges and opportunities.
This enterprise-wide approach convened experts and stakeholders (e.g., vendors, utilities, export credit agencies, insurers, nuclear safety and security regulators, energy planning authorities, export credit agencies etc.) with presentations and role playing for an interactive and insightful look at various SMR deployment options and approaches. Discussions explored approaches and options for countries with limited capital, credit and infrastructure, as well as those with substantial capital, credit and infrastructure. IFNEC’s Participants, Observers and International Organizations were invited. Over 120 people attended the SMR Workshop. Subsequently, the Steering Group Committee released a publicly available Report on the SMR Workshop. CLICK HERE to review the report.
